Young driver had emergency surgery
Ryan Truex is ready to race again.
The driver underwent an emergency appendectomy after feeling severe discomfort in the early morning hours of May 22, according to a news release. Doctors operated on Truex and removed his appendix that afternoon.
The 20-year-old Nationwide Series competitor has been medically cleared and is ready to compete this weekend iin the 200-lap event at Dover International Speedway, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing.
"I felt fine Monday evening, but around 2 a.m. felt a sharp pain in my stomach," Truex said. "I went to the hospital to find out that my appendix hadn't burst, but needed surgery to be removed. The procedure went extremely well, and I'm ready to get back in the No. 20 Grime Boss Toyota this weekend. . . . I'll just be a little lighter."
