Weather delayed Xfinity event at Charlotte Motor Speedway won by Cup driver keeping Elliott Sadler from notching his second victory in three Chase races.

It was NASCAR’s version of a doubleheader on Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway with the weather delayed Xfinity Drive for the Cure 300 following an exciting Bank of America 500 on the Sprint Cup side. For those who stuck around to see it, they saw a very competitive race with Joey Logano taking the nightcap.

Logano, a Sprint Cup regular, held off Elliott Sadler who was looking for his second win in the opening segment of the first ever Xfinity Chase format. He will be seeded No. 2 as the Field of 8 is now set.

Drivers who missed the cut are Brandon Jones (-21 points behind No. 8 Blake Koch), Ryan Sieg (-6), Brennan Poole (-5) and the toughest one was Ty Dillon who missed out by a single point.

There were only four cautions for 19 laps leaving it to the drivers and pit crews to settle things and five Chase drivers landed in the top-10 at the end, Sadler, Daniel Suarez (3rd), Erik Jones (5th), Justin Allgaier (6th) and Ryan Sieg (10th).

If there was a surprise who advanced it was Blake Koch in the No. 11 Chevrolet. What makes it so special is that the team, Kaulig Racing, didn’t exist until January and here they are not only in the Chase, but moving on to the second round. He said he felt like he won the race after finding out he is still alive.

All eight drivers points are reset to 3,000 points entering the next race at Kansas Speedway on Saturday, Oct. 15.

PIT NOTES:
