Williams tabs GP2 champ Maldonado for F1 in 2011

Venezuelan driver Pastor Maldonado will partner Rubens Barrichello at Formula One team Williams in 2011.

The 25-year-old Maldonado joins the British team after winning the championship in GP2, which acts as a feeder series to F1.

Team boss Frank Williams says Maldonado first caught his eye with his ''masterful'' win in the 2007 Monaco GP2 race.

Maldonado is the first Venezuelan on the starting grid in 27 years. Johnny Cecotto was the last, racing 18 times over the 1983 and 1984 seasons.

Maldonado says he will be ''looking to get some good results in return for the support my country has given me to help get me to this position today.''
