When Denny Hamlin won the pole for the Food City 500 on Friday, he said he went faster than he ever imagined going before at Bristol Motor Speedway. That's not surprising given that Hamlin broke the track record with a stunning lap of 129.991 miles per hour in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry.
If you want some idea of what Hamlin meant, take a look from the FOX camera mounted on the front bumper of Clint Bowyer's Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota. It looks like an amusement park ride at close to 130 miles per hour.
And if you think the pucker-factor is high watching this, just imagine doing it for 500 laps with 42 other cars on the track. There's a reason we say these are some of the best drivers in the world: They are.
