Ty Dillon spins, hits Landon Cassill in Cup qualifying

Ty Dillon had a rough moment in qualifying for Sunday’s Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Dillon, who this week is driving the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet, caught the apron in Turn 2 on his warm-up lap, and when he did, his car went around on the backstretch.

From there, things went from bad to worse for Dillon, as his car struck the slowing No. 38 Front Row Motorsports Ford driven by Landon Cassill. Both cars were damaged in the contact.

Cassill wound up qualifying  28th, six spots ahead of Dillon.

“I’ll be honest, I wasn’t looking in my mirrors,” said Cassill. “So, if I would have seen a car sideways at the right time I probably would have tried to speed up.  … Bad timing on my part, I guess..”
