Throwback Thursday: Joey Logano takes monster flip at Dover in 2009
Joey Logano's horrific flip in 2009 looked like a wild ride that would more likely happen at Daytona or Talladega.
Not Dover International Speedway.
But that's exactly what occurred at the 1-mile concrete oval seven years ago at the Monster Mile, site of Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Citizen Soldier 400.
On Lap 31 in the September 2009 race, then-Joe Gibbs Racing driver Logano was hit by another car heading into Turn 3, sending his No. 20 Toyota into the grass.
Logano's car came back up the steep banking of the race track, where he was hit by the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports car driven by Reed Sorensen. The contact sent the 19-year-old's car flying into a scary series of tumbles.
Logano quickly climbed out and walked away from his destroyed car.
