Stewart replaces Hutchens; promotes Borland

Tony Stewart on Monday released Bobby Hutchens as director of competition at Stewart-Haas Racing.

Stewart promoted Matt Borland to vice president of competition. Borland has been with Stewart-Haas Racing since its inception as technical director. The move is immediate. .

Hutchens held his job since 2009. He left his longtime management role with Richard Childress Racing to join Stewart's organization.

''Bobby played an integral part in building Stewart-Haas Racing into a team that wins races and contends for championships,'' Stewart said in a statement. ''We're grateful for all his hard work and dedication, and I am personally appreciative for the responsibilities he took on Friday through Sunday that allowed me to be just a driver. We wish him nothing but the best.''

Stewart-Haas Racing has struggled lately. Stewart and Ryan Newman are both in the top 10 in the points standings, but neither driver have a win.

Stewart has only one top-five finish all season. Newman has one finish better than 14th since Martinsville in early April.
