Sprint Cup final practice cut short due to lightning, see full results
After a red flag for lightning with 27 minutes remaining cut final practice short, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams have put the finishing touches on their race setups for Sunday's Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
Denny Hamlin was the fastest in Saturday's final practice session, turning a best lap of 197.878 miles per hour.
Three Hendrick Motorsports cars followed Hamlin on the time charts, as Chase Elliott was second with a lap of 197.786 mph, followed by Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne. Brad Keselowski rounded out the top five.
Hamlin did run into some trouble with less than 35 minutes remaining in the session, spinning his No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota through the grass at the exit of Turn 4. The car did receive some structural damage as a result, but the team will not go to a backup car.
"I got loose," said Hamlin after the incident. "That was definitely out of the blue, for sure."
