Sam Hornish Jr. not expected to return to Richard Petty Motorsports in 2016

Richard Petty said Saturday that he doesn't expect Sam Hornish Jr. to return for a second season at Richard Petty Motorsports in 2016.

Speaking to reporters Saturday morning, Petty confirmed that RPM will continue to be a two-car team next year, but who will be the second driver to go with Aric Almirola has yet to be determined.

"We're still working on what we're gonna do with the 9 car (Hornish) and crew and all that stuff," Petty said. "Things are looking up. We've got some stuff coming down the pike, but we don't have it corralled yet."

Petty said money will be an important component in picking a driver.

"We've got to look at sponsorship as much as anything else," Petty said. "It's a combination deal. We can't just go with a driver and then not have the money, and we can't go with just the money and not have a driver, so it's gonna be interesting."

With just two races left in the season, Hornish is 25th in points in what likely will be his only season with RPM. His best finish this year is eighth at the spring Talladega race, one of three top 10s he has posted in 2015.
