Roush Fenway Racing hoping for turnaround at Michigan
This weekend marks our second trip to Michigan International Speedway this year. You probably remember us in the past always talking about how this was team owner Jack Roush's track. He's teams almost always won there, in not only Jack's company's backyard but also that of the Big 3 automakers.
Unfortunately for Roush Fenway Racing, the first visit to Michigan about nine weeks ago was a disaster. Collectively they were about as bad as you have ever seen them perform there, when their highest finishing car couldn't do any better than a 20th-place finish.
Now on the plus side of the ledger, the teams used a test to go back to Michigan a couple weeks ago. In talking to everyone following the test, they all said they felt they learned some things that will definitely help them this weekend.
They really do need some kind of spark over there. They didn't do much at the Brickyard. They were just okay last weekend at Watkins Glen. We all know that driver Carl Edwards is moving on next year to another organization. Unfortunately the bad news keeps coming as it was announced earlier this week that long-time Greg Biffle sponsor 3M is moving over to Hendrick Motorsports. They will be the primary sponsor for the next three years on Jeff Gordon's car.
It was a huge shock for me to see 3M making the switch from Roush Fenway Racing to Hendrick Motorsports. I say that because I really felt like 3M was joined at the hip with Greg Biffle and he had already re-signed to return to Roush Fenway Racing. So, I think this definitely catches a lot of people off guard and is naturally a big financial loss to Roush-Fenway Racing for 2015 and beyond.
