Rookie Chase Elliott puts together another strong run at Bristol
Sunday was another strong outing for rookie Chase Elliott, who continues to impress behind the wheel of the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.
Elliott charged back from a loose wheel that put him two laps down to finish a career-best fourth in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
It was the rookie's second consecutive top-five finish and his fifth top 10 in just eight races on the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.
And as he always does after a race, Elliott gave the credit for the strong finish to his team and not to himself.
"Like I say, I think it just comes back to having a good car, and I thought our guys did a really good job throughout the weekend," said Elliott, the son of former Sprint Cup champion Bill Elliott. "We didn't start off like we wanted to, but we were able to kind of work through some things, lean on our teammates a lot."
A big part of that was doing some homework on how to get the No. 24 running better.
"Friday night, kind of looked at some notes and what our teammates were doing that we felt like they were doing really well," said Elliott. "And I feel like that saved us a lot this weekend, just to try to get in the ballpark and then start fine tuning what we needed personally."
And left him pleased with the outcome at one of the more challenging tracks on the Cup circuit.
"Just proud of the effort, and definitely a cool place," said Elliott. "Looking forward to getting back here in the fall and trying to do a little better."
At the rate he's going, it would be at all surprising if Elliott finds Victory Lane sooner rather than later.
