Report: Baylor's Dunn reinstated

Published Oct. 18, 2010 10:14 p.m. ET

Baylor senior guard LaceDarius Dunn can return to classes after being reinstated by the university Wednesday after a hearing in front of Baylor's Office of Judicial Affairs, according to a CBSSports.com report.

Dunn was arrested Oct. 5 in Waco, Texas, on charges that he punched his girlfriend and broke her jaw in two places. Dunn was suspended from Baylor last week after the second-degree felony charge.

Dunn is the fourth-leading scorer in Baylor history and is a preseason All-American by several publications.

Also, FOXSports.com reported that the NCAA is investigating Baylor coach Scott Drew and the men's basketball program for their involvement in the recruitment of a high school player.

The ongoing investigation surrounds the recruitment of 6-foot-9 Hanner Perea, a junior from Colombia who transferred to LaLumiere High School in Indiana, the website said. Multiple people told the website that Baylor assistant coach Mark Morefield sent dozens of texts to Perea's AAU and high school coaches in July while they were coaching events, which is against NCAA rules.

PEARSON SELECTED FOR NASCAR HALL

David Pearson finally received his spot in the NASCAR Hall of Fame, earning the most votes a year after the 105-race winner was surprisingly excluded from the inaugural class.

Others selected were: three-time Daytona 500 winner Bobby Allison; 54-race winner Lee Petty, the patriarch of the Petty racing family; two-time series champion Ned Jarrett; and pioneer team owner Bud Moore.

BRAVES NAME GONZALEZ

Less than 48 hours after Bobby Cox wrapped up his managing career, the Atlanta Braves introduced his protege, former Florida manager Fredi Gonzalez, to take over the job.

The decision was widely expected since Gonzalez was fired in June by the Marlins.

ARENAS FINED FOR FAKING INJURY

Gilbert Arenas was fined an undisclosed amount for faking an injury to keep from playing in the Washington Wizards' home preseason opener.

Coach Flip Saunders said Arenas claimed to have a sore knee before the Wizards' game against Atlanta on Tuesday night.

Arenas admitted after the game that he pretended to have a bum knee to give teammate Nick Young a chance to start.
