Regan Smith staying with Furniture Row
Regan Smith has signed a two-year deal to remain with Furniture Row Racing through the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup season.
Smith, 26, began his NASCAR racing career in the Nationwide Series in 2002 but did not run a full season until four years later. Smith ran a limited Cup season with Bobby Ginn in 2007 and then won the Raybestos rookie title in 2008.
He began driving the No. 78 Chevrolet in 2009 and is currently 30th in the point standings. His best finish this season was 14th at Atlanta Motor Speedway where the Sprint Cup tour will resume next weekend.
“After being there for a couple years I’m really comfortable with what’s going on,” Smith said. “We have 50 people or so and we’re all pulling on the rope in the same direction to reach our goals. And I’m looking forward to growing and building the team to where we want to be in the future.”
Furniture Row general manager Joe Garone said the company continues to search for additional sponsorship to balance out the support of Furniture Row. FRR is still hoping to expand to a two-car operation in the future.
"Regan and Furniture Row align well together," Garone said. "Like the race team, Regan is continually improving and to date has not reached a limit on his potential; it makes racing every weekend exciting to watch as he improves his driving skills and performance. This multi-year relationship gives us the total focus needed to achieve our goals, and we are proud to have Regan on board as our athlete and spokesperson.
"Promoting a nationwide company and racing in NASCAR work together well. As the race team grows to becoming a top contending team so does the awareness of Furniture Row Companies throughout America."
