Rain has caused a red-flag period
Rain has delayed the NASCAR Sprint Cup Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway.
NASCAR red-flagged the race on Lap 129 with Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards in the top five. Stewart led 42 of 129 laps when rain began with Denny Hamlin running second. However, the No. 11 team elected to come down pit road as the first caution flag of the day waved, and he lined up 11th when action ceased.
Five-time track winner winner Jimmie Johnson, who also pitted, experienced engine issues following his stop and is currently scored 10th.
“We’re not exactly sure … but we’re losing blood fast," Johnson said of the issue.
Crew chief Chad Knaus radioed to the team, “I hate to say, it but pray for rain.”
There have been nine lead changes among five drivers. Kyle Busch has led the most laps – 80 circuits.
