Race results: Jeff Gordon wins at Martinsville Speedway

The Eliminator Round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup kicked off on the 0.526-mile short track of Martinsville Speedway with the Goody's Headache Relief Shots 500. 

After a relatively smooth day, everything went wild in the closing stages of the race, with veteran Jeff Gordon getting the advantage and scoring his first victory of the season. 

By taking the win, Gordon will now be a part of the Championship 4 that will race for the Sprint Cup championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway. 

Jamie McMurray was second, followed by Denny Hamlin, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch. Martin Truex Jr., Ryan Newman, Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne and Tony Stewart rounded out the top 10.

A number of Chase drivers had a rough day in the opening round of the Chase. Carl Edwards struggled and finished 14th, Brad Keselowski was 32nd after leading 143 laps, Kurt Busch was was 34th and Joey Logano was 37th after getting wrecked by Matt Kenseth late in the race.
