No one hurt after stunt gone bad at NASCAR race
A father and son have escaped injury after a pre-race stunt gone bad caused a fiery wreck on the frontstretch at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
About two hours before Saturday's Sprint Cup race, the daredevil known as Spanky Spangler was driving around the track in a beat-up recreational vehicle with 'Hold my beer. Watch this' spray-painted on one side.
He was chased by a police cruiser driven by his son, Bryan Spangler. There were a series of planned explosions just as the cars approached a jump. But the bottom of the RV caught fire and landed nose-first on top of junk cars next to the ramps.
It took several minutes for rescue personnel to get the elder Spangler from the RV. He walked to an ambulance and was treated and released from the infield care center.
