NASCAR's McMurray, Larson to suit up for prestigious Rolex 24
While most NASCAR stars will steer clear of Daytona International Speedway until February, Jamie McMurray and Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year Kyle Larson will be making laps on the infield road course during the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
The NASCAR regulars and Chip Ganassi Racing teammates have been added to a Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sebates (CGRFS) lineup that includes the likes of IndyCar Series drivers Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan. The four drivers will pilot the No. 02 Target/Ford EcoBoost Riley during the 2015 running of the event.
From 2006 to 2013, CGRFS has scored an impressive five wins and two second-place finishes in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Ganassi and Sebates are also the only team owners in the history of the race to win three consecutive events from 2006 to 2008.
The organization will also field another car in the race, the No. 01 Ford EcoBoost/Target Riley with Scott Pruett, Joey Hand, Charlie Kimball and Sage Karam behind the wheel.
This will mark the seventh time McMurray -- the 2010 Daytona 500 champion -- will compete in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The driver of the No. 1 Chevrolet in the Sprint Cup Series finished second in 2011, his best result in the endurance race.
Taking a break from his off-season open-wheel racing schedule, Larson will be making just his second start in the prestigious sports car event. Larson competed in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2014 with Dixon, Kanaan, and Dario Franchitti as teammates.
For team owner Chip Ganassi, the Rolex 24 at Daytona is one of the biggest events of the racing season.
"I love this race because it is one of the few times that we are able to bring all of our drivers and partners together in one race," Ganassi said. "NASCAR, IndyCar and IMSA drivers and partners are all represented in this unique endurance event. We have had the good fortune of having success in this event which is the result of a lot of hard work by the crew, talent behind the wheel and at some level, a little luck. But I think the best thing about the Rolex 24 is that it is the first event of another season. I can't wait."
