NASCAR founder's great grandson Kennedy moving into Truck series
Ben Kennedy is moving into a full-time role in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2014.
Kennedy, 21, will drive the No. 31 Turner Scott Motorsports entry as he contends for the rookie of the year honor. Michael Shelton, who led the team to the championship with driver James Buescher in 2012, will continue his role as crew chief.
Kennedy has won Pro-Truck championship titles at both Orlando Speedworld and New Smyrna Speedway as well as the 2010 Super Late Model championship at Orlando Speedworld.
He is the great grandson of NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. In 2013, he competed in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, finishing fourth in the driver standings with two wins and nine top-10 finishes, three of them top fives.
The Daytona Beach, Fla., native is also completing his Sports Management degree at the University of Florida.
"I'm really excited about the opportunity to be in Turner Scott Motorsports No. 31 truck for 2014 and to be able to work alongside Michael Shelton and a very talented crew," said Kennedy. "It will be a great year and I hope to really learn a lot in the series and compete for wins and rookie of the year.
