NASCAR Fantasy Picks: Darlington Raceway

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

NASCAR fantasy racing ready for a Throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway for the Bojangles’ Southern 500. Let’s take a look the drivers you should have on your NASCAR fantasy team for the only race at Darlington Raceway this season.

Kevin Harvick

Harvick is the only driver to finish inside the top-five in the last two races at Darlington Raceway, winning in 2014 and finishing third in 2015. He has also led a combined 282 laps in those two races, the most of any driver. With 10 top-ten finishes in his last 12 starts this season, Harvick is one of the strongest drivers on the circuit currently and headed towards one of his best tracks.

The Kyle’s

Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson are the only two drivers not named Kevin Harvick who have finished inside the top-ten in the last two races at Darlington Raceway. Busch and Larson have only led a combined six laps over the last two races at Darlington but each have finished solidly inside the top-ten.

Larson enters this weekend riding high on momentum as he scored his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory. Busch on the other hand is struggling and could use Darlington as a place to get back on track before he heads to one of his strongest racetracks, Richmond International Raceway.

Brad Keselowski

Keselowski is the only other driver not named Harvick to lead more than 70 total laps in the last two races, leading 200. He finished second a year ago after leading a whopping 196 laps and returns to Darlington Raceway with some momentum, finishing inside the top-ten in eight of his last 12 races this season. Keselowski is a solid pick if the price is right for your team.

McMurray, Dillon and Newman are your mid-range picks

Now is the time of the season to continue starting those Chase for the Sprint Cup bubble drivers. McMurray and Dillon are on the inside while Newman is on the outside of the Chase cutoff, meaning all three will be looking for a win and a good, solid finish.

Newman has the best average finish of the trio in his last two races at Darlington Raceway, finishing 10th in 2014 and 13th in 2015. McMurray and Dillon also boast solid records at the track they call “Too Tough to Tame.” McMurray finished 14th and 16th in his last two races while Dillon finished 11th and 22nd.

At mid-pack prices, all three could help your team go from average to great this weekend.
