NASCAR adds two Goodyear tire tests to fine-tune 2017 rules package
As NASCAR continues to work on fine-tuning its 2017 rules package, the sanctioning body has added a pair of Goodyear tires tests next month.
The first one will be a two-day test at Martinsville Speedway on Oct. 4-5. Martinsville, the smallest and slowest oval track in NASCAR, will play host to the seventh race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, the Goody's Fast Relief 500 on Oct. 30.
Interestingly, though, a second tire test will take place Oct. 17 at Kansas Speedway, the day after the Hollywood Casino 400, the fifth race in the Chase.
One of the keys to coming up with a successful 2017 rules package will be coming up with tires that match up well with the aero characteristics of the cars. These two tests should help NASCAR and Goodyear get a head start on next year's final package.
