Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson escape true calamity

Published May. 15, 2016 3:16 p.m. ET

Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick, two of the favorites to win the AAA 400 Drive For Autism at Dover International Speedway, had a moment of high drama shortly past the halfway mark of Sunday's Sprint Cup race.

The two were running in the top 10 when the engine in Reed Sorenson's Chevrolet appeared to let go, oiling down the track in Turn 2 on Lap 213. Johnson hit the oil and spun the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet trying to avoid Sorenson's wounded car.

Behind them, Harvick had to slam on his brakes and bring the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevy to a complete  stop to avoid running into Johnson.

While unpleasant, both men avoided true calamity by keeping their cars together and out of harm's way.
