Kahne crew chief Kenny Francis fined $25K for Talladega infraction

Kasey Kahne matched his best finish of the Sprint Cup Series season -- eighth -- this past weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.

The ending wasn't entirely happy, however.

NASCAR on Tuesday afternoon levied a P3 level penalty -- in the form of a $25,000 fine -- on Kahne crew chief Kenny Francis after Kahne's No. 5 Chevy failed post-qualifying inspection for Sunday's Aaron's 499.

Kahne, who qualified 17th in the 43-car field, saw his qualifying time disallowed when his car didn't meet NASCAR's minimum weight requirement -- a violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 12-4.3(A)1-c (unapproved added weight and/or weight affixed improperly) of the 2014 rule book.

Kahne, who finished best at Talladega among the four Hendrick Motorsports drivers, sits 20th in the standings after 10 races.
