Joey Logano Foundation donates $5,000 to Carolina Breast Friends
As Charlotte Motor Speedway was kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness month by painting the pit road wall pink, Team Penske driver Joey Logano was on site to lend a hand and offer up some support for the widespread disease.
Standing in Victory Lane surrounded by breast cancer survivors, families and supporters, Logano presented a $5,000 check to Carolina Breast Friends on behalf of the Joey Logano Foundation.
The Carolina Breast Friends is a non-profit organization begun in 2003 by Kristy Adams-Ebel that is "committed to uniting and helping women with breast cancer in all stages of survival."
The organization helps survivors and their families with organizational centers, donation drives, and much more.
"We started the foundation with the intentions of providing a second chance; people that work really hard and something comes up that you need help to get over it. This is definitely a disease you need help to get over," said Logano. "Obviously there's a lot that needs to go into it to help people get better, but also the mental side of it, helping people cope with it is an equally important part of it.
"Giving to Carolina Breast Friends, that's a great cause," he said. "It fits with what the foundation stands for, and with it being Breast Cancer Awareness month and everything else going on at the speedway, it made perfect sense to do that."
When introduced to the crowd of survivors, families and supporters, Logano was given a hearty welcome, but for the 24-year-old Sprint Cup Series driver, it was the survivors that made the big impact on the day.
"They probably have a bigger impact on me," he said. "Hearing some of the stories of what they've gone through, the survivors â some of the stuff they've gone through is amazing. How positive they are about life they are right now is awesome. I probably gained more out of it than they do for sure."
