Kevin Harvick’s crumpled race car sat in the Daytona International Speedway garage, still smoldering from a six-car accident late in Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout.
As Harvick’s team owner Richard Childress walked up to the wreckage, the frustration was written all over his face. It was a costly night.
“Until NASCAR will tell them you can’t push in the corners, it’s gonna tear up everything and just be a wreckfest,’’ said Childress, whose entire three-car stable was involved in accidents.
“It’s exactly what we expected, just a matter if you survived or not. You can’t push these cars in the corner. You either have the tandem or no tandem. It’s ridiculous.’’
Echoed Harvick, “Guys just don’t have a lot of experience in pack racing and things are happening so fast.’’
“You’ll see the same guys causing the wrecks,’’ Harvick said shaking his head.
“It’s been too easy for the past couple of years. The talent level showed up pretty heavily tonight.
“We’re gonna have a different strategy for the (Daytona) 500 I can tell you that.’’
