Greg Biffle triggers a 'Big One' late in race at Atlanta Motor Speedway
A Daytona-style "Big One" wreck brought Sunday's Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 to a halt at Atlanta Motor Speedway with 20 laps to go as the red flag was thrown to clean up the mess.
The incident occurred following a restart when Greg Biffle got together with Joe Nemechek entering Turn 3. Biffle dove to the inside of Nemechek, who was driving the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford, and made contact, sending both cars sliding up the track.
Clogging the racing groove, the rest of the field piled into the smoke and in the end Clint Bowyer, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Kyle Larson, Tony Stewart, Regan Smith, and Sam Hornish Jr. were all involved.
"I don't know how he got me there in the left rear, that was messed up," Nemechek said of Biffle over the radio.
The race was red flagged so crews could clean the wreckage. With the field stopped, Jimmie Johnson led Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Martin Truex Jr., and Kevin Harvick.
There were only 13 cars on the lead lap, including Bowyer, who was involved in the incident and down a cylinder.
