Ferrari ditches bar code design from F1

Published Jul. 8, 2010 1:45 p.m. ET

Ferrari has unveiled a new logo for its Formula One racing team without the disputed bar code design that was seen as subliminal advertising for Marlboro cigarettes.

The new branding, which still features Ferrari's trademark Prancing Horse, will start in the 2011 season.

While Ferrari first removed the bar code from its chassis at the Spanish Grand Prix in May, it will remain in use away from the cars for the rest of this season.

Cigarette sponsorship in F1 has all but disappeared because of advertising bans in most countries where races are held.

Ferrari is the only team that is sponsored by a tobacco company and still will be known as ``Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro.''
