Daytona 500 champ Logano keeps 'old train rolling' with Atlanta pole

Ever since winning last Sunday's 57th running of the Daytona 500 and lifting the Harley J. Earl trophy in Victory Lane at Daytona International Speedway, Team Penske's Joey Logano has been going nonstop.

Once he left Daytona, Logano was swept along for a media blitz that took him from Connecticut to California and finally down to Atlanta Motor Speedway for Sunday's Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.

And Logano picked up where he left off in Daytona -- at the top of the leaderboard.

The Team Penske driver was fourth in the day's lone Cup practice and was fastest in the day's two NASCAR Xfinity Series practice sessions.

In Friday night's Sprint Cup knockout qualifying session, Logano was fastest in Round 1, second to Kevin Harvick in Round 2 and topped the charts to win the pole in Round 3, qualifying ahead of Harvick, Jamie McMurray, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards.

Coming off a career-crowning victory last weekend in Daytona, Logano's first pole of the 2015 season was extra special, as it came at a track he cut his teeth at racing Legends cars.

"It's been an amazing few weeks if you think about the Daytona 500 and everything that comes along with that, and then coming down here to Atlanta and starting first is special, especially for me here at this racetrack," said Logano. "I remember sitting in the corner and watching drivers up here talking about their qualifying run and racing Legends cars out front here for years, so there are a lot of memories here.

"Obviously, anything to be in Victory Lane here is a very special place for me," he said. "I don't know what's going on lately. Everything is going well and we're just trying to keep the old train rolling here. It's going great, and we'll see what happens on Sunday."
