David Gilliland cleared to race after hard wreck in Kansas

Published May. 12, 2014 1:15 p.m. ET

Front Row Motorsports driver David Gilliland took to his personal Twitter account Monday afternoon to announce he was medically cleared to compete in this weekend's events at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Gilliland was involved in a frightening incident on the frontstretch during Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway. His No. 38 Ford was hit nearly head-on at full speed by Justin Allgaier's No. 51 Chevrolet as it slid back across the track. The contact sent Gilliland's car hard into the outside wall in a shower of sparks.

Both drivers were able to walk away from their cars, something Gilliland credits to NASCAR's safety measures.
