Dale Jr.: Change spoiler to slow cars

Published Feb. 13, 2011 7:54 p.m. ET

With race speeds exceeding 206 mph in last night’s Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway and dancing partners in two-car drafts deciding the contenders at the end, it’s no surprise that NASCAR is looking at wholesale changes for the remainder of Speedweeks for Sprint Cup Series cars.

“They need to cut the spoiler in half,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. “If you go to a smaller plate, you need to cut the spoiler in half and lay it down. They used to race here in ‘89 with 20-degrees and four inches (spoiler angle and size). You could put a smaller plate on it and run the same speeds.”

Despite his evening ending early, Earnhardt had enjoyed the competition.

“It’s always fun driving crazy,” he said.
