Jennifer Jo Cobb made NASCAR history Friday night at Daytona International Speedway.
The 37-year-old Kansas City native earned the best finish for a female in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with her sixth-place run in the NextEra Energy Resources 250.
"I'm so excited with what we accomplished tonight," Cobb said. "This finish is a testament to my team's hard work and dedication. We don't have near the budget that some of the other teams operate with, but we never give up. It's like Walt Disney said, 'It's kind of fun to do the impossible.”
Cobb, who also owns her team, came one position short of earning the best-ever finish for a female driver in NASCAR’s national series. In 1949, Sara Christian finished fifth at Heidelberg Raceway in Pittsburgh in a Cup series race.
In 30 career starts in the series, Cobb’s best result prior to Friday night was 14th – which she earned last season at both Texas Motor Speedway and Darlington Raceway.
Milka Duno holds the best finish by a female racer in a major race at Daytona International Speedway as part of the team that finished second in the 2007 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
