Chase Elliott wins fan vote while three others advance to Monster Energy All-Star Race
CONCORD, N.C. -- After finishing third in the final stage of the Monster Energy Open Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Chase Elliott has won the fan vote to earn the final spot in the Monster Energy All-Star Race.
After starting on pole, Clint Bowyer led every lap and cruised to a 3.653-second victory over Ryan Blaney to lock himself into the main event.
"We've got a shot at it," Bowyer said. "We've got a good car, our Haas Automation Ford is strong and I'm just proud to be a part of it."
But Blaney got his chance in the second stage, beating Chase Elliott by 0.203 seconds to claim the second spot for the race.
Following an incredible battle between Elliott, Daniel Suarez and Erik Jones in the final stage, Suarez took the victory to make the all-star field.
Jones got the worst end of it all, cutting a tire from contact after trying to pass Elliott on the frontstretch for the lead.
"Well, we had to make something happen," Jones told FOX NASCAR reporter Jamie Little after the incident. "We were trying to work our way back. I was trying to make a move on the No. 24. It was just unfortunate that it ended that way."
The fan vote was unveiled following FS1's coverage of the Monster Energy Open prior to the four-stage, 70-lap all-star event.
Live coverage of the Monster Energy All-Star Race continues at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
