Jennifer Ayers-Moore's journey as an advocate for people with mental illness started with her brother, Nathaniel Ayers. Ayers, a gifted musician whose career was cut short by schizophrenia, is the subject of "The Soloist," Greensboro's One City, One Book selection. USO DANCE

Jump and jive to the swing of a bygone era during a USO Dance at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hanger 2 of the N.C. Aviation Museum, 2222 Pilots View Road in Asheboro. The Randolph Jazz Band provides the music and a free swing dance lesson at the fundraiser for the museum, which features a collection of contemporary and vintage aircraft. Halloween arrives early for Ghoulash! The annual event presented by Greensboro Youth Council is from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Cultural Arts District that includes the Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 N. Davie St., and its adjacent park. The event features face painting, inflatable attractions, a maze, arts and crafts, storytelling, treats and costume contests in three age groups.
