Carl Edwards' hopes for second win in a row take a hit on pit road
One week after winning his first race of the season at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Carl Edwards' bid for a second consecutive victory hit a snag when he hit pit road on Lap 162 Sunday at Dover International Speedway.
Edwards was one of the final cars to hit pit road under green-flag conditions and was leading when he brought the No. 19 Toyota to the attention of his Joe Gibbs Racing pit crew.
As the crew finished the stop and dropped the jack, the rear tire carrier was still making a wedge adjustment in the rear window. When Edwards pulled away, the crew member did all he could to remove the wrench, but fell on his face.
Edwards stopped on pit road to allow the wrench to be removed.
Luckily for Edwards, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. had an issue with the suspension, hit the wall and brought out the second caution of the day.
Once under caution, Edwards brought the car back to pit road so the team could fix the sleeve that slid out when the team tried to pull the wrench out the first time.
When the race went back to green flag conditions on Lap 169, Edwards was 21st, the last car on the lead lap.
