Bayne prepared to fill in for Ambrose

Published Apr. 28, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

Trevor Bayne will be standing by for Marcos Ambrose for Saturday night’s Capital City 400 at Richmond International Raceway.

Team sources confirmed that Ambrose was suffering from back issues. While it’s the driver’s intention to run the entire race, Bayne will be on the sidelines as a precaution.

Ambrose qualified the No. 9 Stanley Ford 14th for the race. He is currently 21st in the point standings.

Bayne is running a limited schedule for Wood Brothers Racing in Sprint Cup. He has three starts this season in the No. 21 Ford. His Nationwide Series duties with Roush Fenway Racing are currently on hiatus pending sponsorship. Bayne is ninth in NNS points despite not competing in the last two races.
