Allgaier, Sorenson to drive in Nationwide for Turner
Turner Motorsports announced its driver/sponsor lineup for 2011 — but many questions still remain for the revamped organization.
While team owner Steve Turner insists that he’ll have three cars running for the Nationwide Series championship and three trucks campaigning for the Camping World Truck Series title, there are still question marks in terms of sponsors for a few of the rides.
Justin Allgaier and Reed Sorenson will be full-time primary drivers in the Nos. 31 and 32 Nationwide Chevrolets, respectively. Jason Leffler will also run full time in the Nationwide Series, but he will race the Nos. 30 and 38 depending on the race weekend. He will be sharing the rides with Kasey Kahne, James Buescher and Ricky Carmichael — all of which will drive part time in the series.
Allgaier will join the organization from Penske Racing, where he is having a career year with one win, eight top fives and 19 top 10s in 32 races so far this season. The loss of sponsorship at Penske opened the door for Allgaier to make the move to Turner.
Carmichael and Buescher will run the full Truck schedule in the Nos. 4 and 31 with a hodgepodge of drivers, including Brad Sweet, Jason Leffler, Justin Allgaier and additional drivers to be determined, competing in the No. 32
Turner has enlisted support from a variety of Chevrolet partners for next season. Hendrick Motorsports will provide engines while Kevin Harvick Inc. has been contracted for body and fabrication work. Dale Earnhardt Inc. will offer drive train and suspension technology to the Turner Motorsports program.
Turner Motorsports, which began as a Truck series operation at the start of the season, bought out Braun Racing midway through the season.
