Alex Bowman Has Unfinished Business In New Hampshire
With Dale Earnhardt Jr. out for the remainder of the season, Alex Bowman makes his return to New Hampshire and looks to finish what he started in July.
This weekend Alex Bowman returns to the track where he made his first Sprint Cup Series start of 2016. Since then he’s made two additional starts but his run at New Hampshire a couple months ago stands out as most impressive. Bowman was running will inside the top ten and challenging for a top five before encountering a cut tire late in the race.
Bowman backed up his New Hampshire performance with a solid run at Michigan until engine issues on lap 50 dashed any hopes of a great finish. His bad luck finally started to turn around last weekend at Chicagoland. Bowman finished in 10th after starting 17th and even led six laps during the event.
This weekend will bring some added pressure for Bowman to finish what he started in July at New Hampshire. His first three races certainly showed he has the skills to compete with the best in NASCAR’s top series. Now Bowman just needs to show he’s capable of finishing out races and bringing home solid finishes.
For Bowman it isn’t about points or even wins. It’s about finishing races and not taking unnecessary risks. After all, he’s trying to impress owners in order to secure a ride next year. The remainder of 2016 is an audition. While a win would be great it’s not worth taking a huge gamble and throwing away a top-five or top-ten finish. Owners want a dependable driver who doesn’t tear up equipment and makes smart decisions.
Bowman has seven races remaining in 2016 to prove himself. Look for him to make some noise this weekend at the magic mile.
