Lap 198: Franchitti still leads! 2.9793 lead on second-place Dan Wheldon

Lap 195: Second-place Tony Kanaan pits for a splash-and-go!

Lap 193: Engineers are pleading with Dario Franchitti to save gas - this is getting tense with seven laps remaining.

Lap 191: Helio Castroneves pits! Dario Franchitti in the lead - Tony Kanaan 1.2041 seconds behind.

Lap 189: First-place Justin Wilson pits - he could not make it on fuel. Graham Rahal also on pit road! Helio Castroneves leads, Dario Franchitti second - 6.2937 seconds behind.

Lap 184: Here's how things are shaping up - Justin Wilson leads, but he has to pit again. Same is true for second-place Helio Castroneves and third-place Graham Rahal. Fourth-place Dario Franchitti is good on fuel, and he has a three-second lead on Tony Kanaan and the rest of the pack.

Lap 178: Mike Conway is running out of fuel, he pits from the lead. Justin Wilson is your new leader.

Lap 175: Teams are telling their drivers - SAVE FUEL

RESTART - Lap 166: Conway, Wilson, Castroneves, Rahal and Franchitti are your top five.

Lap 162: Almost everybody comes in for fuel this time by. Conway, Wilson and Castroneves stayed out.

CAUTION 8 - Lap 161: Sebastian Saavedra spins out and hits the wall.

Lap 160: Townsend Bell black-flagged for blocking earlier.

Lap 159: Ryan Hunter-Reay goes underneath Townsend Bell for sixth! Great pass by Hunter-Reay!

Lap 157: Tony Kanaan passes teammate Marco Andretti for second!

RESTART - Lap 156: Top 10 - Franchitti, Andretti, Kanaan, Scheckter, Bell, Hunter-Reay, Wheldon, Dixon, Power and Conway. Notables: Patrick (12th), Rahal (14th), Castroneves (17th)

Team owner Roger Penske: "I'm not sure what happened (with Briscoe's car before the accident)."

CAUTION 7 - Lap 146: A Penske car is in the wall! It's Ryan Briscoe! Wrecked coming out of Turn 4 and slams again on frontstretch. One of the prerace favorites, Briscoe's day is done.

Lap 145: Helio Castroneves stalls it on pit road! Huge error for the defending winner.

Lap 144: Race leader Dario Franchitti pits.

Lap 141: Dario Franchitti has a lead of over nine seconds as the pit stop sequence begins.

Lap 134: Sarah Fisher reports an issue with the car and she pulls into the garage. She is one of four females in today's race

Lap 125: Townsend Bell moves up to eighth after passing Will Power.

Lap 115: Tony Kanaan is in 2nd.

Lap 113: Franchitti passes Scheckter for the lead in Turn 1.

Lap 112: Kanaan passes fellow Brazilian Castroneves for third on the restart.

Lap 112: Top five - Scheckter (he pitted on Lap 105), Franchitti, Castroneves, Kanaan, Briscoe. Power, Hunter-Reay, Bell, Marco Andretti and Wheldon are your top 10.

Lap 108: Leaders pit. Great drag race off of pit road - Franchitti keeps the lead.

Lap 107: Ed Carpenter pits while the pits are closed for a quick splash of gas - he was running low. He will come back for service as soon as the pits open.

CAUTION 6 - Lap 105: Vitor Meira hits the wall coming off Turn 2. The accident results in damaged suspension and his day is done.

Lap 100: HALFWAY! Dario Franchitti leads, Helio Castroneves only 0.6802 seconds behind. Tony Kanaan, who started 33rd, is up to fifth. Other notables include Marco Andretti (12th) and Danica Patrick (17th).

Lap 91: Leader Dario Franchitti is unable to lap Graham Rahal, and as a result the rest of the field is catching Franchitti.

As a reminder: You must "Hold your line" in the IndyCar Series, and you are not allowed to block a rival's progress unless they are in your line. Several drivers have been warned (and two have been penalized so far) for blocking.

Lap 82: Graham Rahal seves a drive through penalty for blocking. (Dan Wheldon the victim again)

RESTART - Lap 79: Franchitti restarts in the lead again. Castroneves, Briscoe, Carpenter and Kanaan are your top five.

CAUTION 5 - Lap 72: Raphael Matos hits the wall HARD. He was as high as third earlier today. Was running high in Turn 1and just lost it.

RESTART - Lap 71: Top 10 - Franchitti, Castroneves, Briscoe, Kanaan, Carpenter, Hunter-Reay, Scheckter, Rahal, Bell and Wheldon. Notables: Marco Andretti (14th), Simona de Silvestro (15th, top female), Danica Patrick (17th), Dixon (24th)

Lap 67: Leaders pit under caution. SEVERAL ISSUES ON PIT ROAD! Scott Dixon has a tire come off and he stops on pit road. Raphael Matos also had a wheel come off, he spins and hits the pit wall.

CAUTION 4 - Lap 64: John Andretti is in the wall going into Turn 3. His day is done.

Lap 54: John Andretti just got black-flagged for blocking in Turn 1. He was deemed to be blocking Dan Wheldon.

Lap 50: Quarter-way - Dario Franchitti leads.

Lap 48: Hideki Mutoh goes in the pits - he's having handling issues.

Lap 44: Will Power's team fixed any damage they had under caution, but he had to serve his penalty under green. He's back out, but will get lapped.

RESTART - Lap 43: Top 10 - Franchitti, Castroneves, Tagliani, Matos, Briscoe, Carpenter, Dixon, Sheckter, Bell, Hunter-Reay.

Lap 41: Danica and Graham both pit during the caution, dropping positions but getting back in line with the leaders as far as pit sequence.

Lap 40: If you wondering "How'd that happen?"Graham Rahal, who pitted during the first caution of the day, is in second place. Same for Danica Patrick, who is in fourth.

CAUTION 3 - Lap 39: Debris. That is a huge help to Will Power, who had not come back in to remove the fuel hose from his car and was actually just black flagged.

Lap 38: Leader Ryan Briscoe pits.

Lap 37: OH NO! Will Power leaves the pit with part of his fuel hose still attached - he will have to come back in - tough luck!

Lap 37: Leaders Dario Franchitti and Will Power pit. Ryan Briscoe takes the top spot.

Lap 36: Third-place Helio Castroneves pits. Team is fueling up, changing tires and making a wing adjustment to help his steering. Tony Kanaan also pits.

Lap 31: Will Power takes the lead!

Lap 28: Leader Dario Franchitti puts 28th-place Sarah Fisher a lap down.

Lap 22: Dario Franchitti's lead up front is 0.6744 seconds on Will Power and 2.1105 on Helio Castroneves.

Lap 19: Tony Kanaan is already up to 15th (started 33rd).

Interesting note: Jack Nicholson, who waved the green flag for the start of the race, stuck around for the next two cautions to restart the field. RELATED: Celebrity sightings in Indianapolis

Lap 14: WOW! E.J. Viso goes on the grass for a brief instant as he passes Vitor Meira for 18th place.

RESTART - Lap 12: Top 10 - Franchitti, Castroneves, Power, Tagliani, Dixon, Briscoe, Carpenter, Scheckter, Bell and Matos.

Lap 10: Danica Patrick, Graham Rahal and a few other drivers pit under caution.

CAUTION 2 - Lap 8: Oh no! One of the darkhorses today - Bruno Junqueira - hits the wall. He got loose coming out of Turn 2, hit the outside wall and then slide down the track. A couple of cars got very lucky to avoid him. He was running 25th at the time of his incident.

Lap 7: Danica Patrick drops to 28th place. She is very unhappy with the handling of her car.

Lap 6: They go three- and almost four-wide on the backstretch.

RESTART - Lap 5: Top five - Dario Franchitti, Helio Castroneves, Will Power, Alex Tagliani and Ryan Briscoe. Tony Kanaan, who started 33rd, will restart 25th.

CAUTION - Lap 1: All drivers get through Turns 1 and 2, but coming out of 2 Davey Hamilton got loose, loses control and goes into the inside wall. Dario Franchitti had taken the lead and is now up front.

GREEN FLAG! Helio Castroneves leads the field to the green.

1:08 p.m. ET: Pace laps begin - we are about to go GREEN!

1:06 p.m. ET: Mari Hulman George gives the command - ENGINES FIRED

1:05 p.m. ET: Jim Nabors sings a great rendition of "Back Home in Indiana."

1:02 p.m. ET: Military members give a 21 gun salute as part of the prerace ceremony.

12:55 p.m. ET: Jewel sings the National Anthem.

12:53 p.m. ET: Florence Henderson sings America the Beautiful.

12:45 p.m. ET: Driver intros are complete and the "Class photo" has been taken care of. We are minutes away from racing.

12:30 p.m. ET: Driver introductions have begun. Danica gets a mixed reception - although cheers seems to win the day.
