King's iconic colors bring in big bucks at Barrett-Jackson
As expected, the Richard Petty Motorsports 2012 Ford Fusion NASCAR Sprint Cup Series charity car fetched big money on the first day of the Seventh Annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Collector-Car Auction.
The car, which team owner Richard Petty donated, sold for $100,000 with all proceeds benefitting the Paralyzed Veterans of America and Barrett-Jackson not taking any fees or commissions on the sale.
Aric Almirola drove the car two years ago at the spring race at Kansas Speedway, the STP 400.
The sale was an emotional high point of the first day of the three-day auction. Noted car collector and vintage racer Walt Brown purchased the car.
In its history, Barrett-Jackson has raised nearly $65 million for charity.
