Mullan suspended for 10 games
Brian Mullan has been suspended for 10 games, Major League Soccer announced Thursday.
The Colorado Rapids midfielder had his red card suspension extended by nine games after the league's Disciplinary Committee judged his tackle on Seattle's Steve Zakuani to be "reckless, egregious and [showing] utter disregard for the safety of his opponent."
Mullan was shown a straight red in the third minute of Colorado's April 22 match against the visiting Seattle Sounders. Mullan's challenge broke Zakuani's right tibia and fibula, likely ending the attacker's season.
On Wednesday, Mullan issued a statement saying he was ''deeply sorry to Steve and all those impacted by his injury.''
In addition to the suspension, Mullan was also fined a total of $5,000, $250 of which came from his straight red card.
