Cahill's goal lifts NY over Crew
Columbus Crew 0, New York Red Bulls 1
Tim Cahill scored on a rebound moments after a penalty kick save by Luis Robles and the New York Red Bulls beat the Columbus Crew 1-0 on Saturday.
Cahill headed a rebound in the 80th minute after Andy Gruenebaum made the initial save off a shot by Jonathan Steele.
''Jonny hit a great strike,'' Cahill said. ''The `keeper reacted with a save. I seen the `keeper off the line and just lifted it over with an instinctive header. Overall, it's a good reward for a hard day's work.''
The Red Bulls (5-4-2) had three shots on goal, all in the second half, but still won their third straight overall. They improved to 3-0-2 against the Crew in the past five meetings.
San Jose Earthquakes 2, Montreal Impact 2
Sam Cronin scored in the first minute of second-half injury time to give the San Jose Earthquakes a 2-2 tie against the Montreal Impact on Saturday.
Justin Mapp scored in the 24th and 47th minutes to give Montreal a 2-0 lead, but San Jose rookie Adam Jahn got one back in the 59th.
Cronin took one touch off a knockdown header from Chris Wondolowski and lashed a shot home from 20 yards for his first goal of the season.
Montreal (5-1-2) extended its unbeaten streak to three matches.
San Jose (2-3-5) has tied four of the past five matches and is winless in six straight games.
Philadelphia Union 2, Seattle Sounders 2
Mauro Rosales scored a goal in the 64th minute to give the Seattle Sounders a 2-2 draw on the road against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.
Danny Cruz scored twice for the Union (3-3-3), who remained undefeated at home, but probably expected better against the Sounders.
After Rosales got the equalizer for Seattle (1-3-3), the match got chippy. Seattle's Lamar Neagle and Philadelphia's Sheanon Williams were shown red cards in the 85th minute following a scuffle. Five minutes later, Seattle's DeAndre Yedlin was sent off at the beginning of stoppage time, reducing the Sounders to nine men.
All three players will miss their next match.
Eddie Johnson also scored for Seattle after missing the previous two matches with a hamstring injury.
Colorado Rapids 1, Toronto FC 0
Edson Buddle scored in the 86th minute to lift the Colorado Rapids to a 1-0 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday night.
After finding the ball just outside the crease when Toronto defender Logan Emory gave it up, Buddle easily scored into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Colorado (3-4-3) has scored four goals in its past five games, though the Rapids have been outscored 9-8 overall this season.
Rapids goalkeeper Clint Irwin outplayed Toronto's Joseph Bendik to improve to 3-2-2 with three shutouts since taking over for the injured Matt Pickens.
Toronto (1-4-4) has lost consecutive games after tying four straight, and dropped to 0-3-1 on road.
Real Salt Lake 2, Whitecaps FC 0
Luis Gil ended a scoring drought with a header just minutes into the second half and Javier Morales also scored to lead Real Salt Lake to a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night.
Salt Lake (4-4-2) played without its top three forwards as Alvaro Saborio, Robbie Findley and Olmes Garcia all were sidelined because of injuries. It forced head coach Jason Kreis to use his ninth different starting lineup this season.
The Whitecaps (2-4-3) extended their MLS winless streak to seven games. Vancouver has not won since a 2-1 home victory over Columbus on March 9. The Whitecaps have given up at least two goals in five of those seven contests.
Neither team generated offense in the first halftime. Salt Lake managed just two shots on goal while Vancouver did not have a shot.
Salt Lake got on the scoreboard on Gil's goal in the 47th minute. Nick Rimando set the scoring play in motion with a booming goal kick, and Plata corralled the deep ball on the right flank and sent a cross into Gil, who simply lunged forward and headed the ball into the net.
The Whitecaps nearly tied it in the 61st minute when Corey Hertzog challenged Rimando and flicked the ball past his feet. The ball puttered along the goal line before Nat Borchers charged after it and cleared it off the line to preserve the lead.
Morales made it 2-0 in the 71st minute as he tapped a running right footer inside the left post. Plata also set up this goal, sending a short cross to Morales in the center of the box after Sebastian Velasquez fed the ball ahead to him.
