Rays owner Sternberg, manager Cash learning each others' tendencies
The Tampa Bay Rays and owner Stuart Sternberg took a big risk in hiring first-year manager Kevin Cash.
So far, it's paying off for them.
The communication between the two is only helping the two understand what makes each other click, thus creating a better working environment.
“He is almost as willing as any person I ever worked with or I worked for or worked for me to admit mistakes and an openness to learn from them as opposed to defending his position,” Sternberg told the Tampa Tribune of Cash.
The skipper also had some nice words of the owner. “I could not imagine a more relaxed owner who gets it, gets the grind of the everyday. We all have the same frustrations. We all share the same happiness when we win, frustration when we lose.”
In a season that many experts picked the Rays to finish last in the division, they sit at 49-51 after 100 games and just four games back of the second spot in the wild card.
