Ogilvy wins Australian Open for 1st time
Geoff Ogilvy shot a final-round 3-under-par 69 Sunday to win his first Australian Open by four strokes.
Ogilvy, the 2006 U.S. Open champion, finished with a four-round total of 19-under-par 269.
Fellow Australians Matt Jones and Alistar Presnell finished equal second. Former champion John Senden and Jordan Sherratt, playing his first tournament as a professional, shared fourth place, seven shots behind Ogilvy.
''I played really well every day,'' Ogilvy said. ''I've had a pretty rough year, so I was looking forward to playing this course.''
It was Ogilvy's second professional victory on home soil after winning the Australian PGA in 2008. Ogilvy will play the Australian PGA event at Coolum, Queensland, next week, along with John Daly, Adam Scott and Robert Allenby.
Ogilvy sunk a par-saving downhill putt of 5 feet on the 15th hole and had only one bogey for the day when he missed a 7-footer for par on 16.
On the par-3, 180-meter (198-yard) 18th hole, which he bogeyed on Saturday, Ogilvy's tee shot landed about 12 feet from the hole and he made an easy two-putt to take the Stonehaven Cup.
Ogilvy won the season-opening U.S. PGA tour event in Hawaii, then played well below his standards, dropping to No. 42 in the world rankings.
Greg Norman, who on Saturday criticized changes that had been made to the course, finished level with Scott, the defending champion. Scott shot 71 and Norman 72 Sunday to finish at 285, 16 strokes back of Ogilvy.
