Erik Compton, 4 others receive British Open invites
Erik Compton and Brooks Koepka were among the five players who were added Monday to the 2014 Open Championship field.
Compton, the two-time heart transplant recipient who was recently co-runner-up at the U.S. Open, earned his spot in the July 17-20 major championship at Royal Liverpool via the R&A's alternate list, which is based on the Official World Golf Ranking.
With just two weeks left until the Open Championship, there are not enough qualifying opportunities to fill out the 156-man field. The other three players receiving invitations are K.J. Choi, Charles Howell III and Freddie Jacobson.
Choi did not play this year's U.S. Open, missing his first major since the 2002 Masters.
Shawn Stefani, Charley Hoffman, Ben Martin and Brendan Steele earned their Open invites Sunday via their finish at the Quicken Loans National, an Open Qualifying Series event.
Here are the remaining Open Qualifying Series events and how many invites each event gets:
-Greenbrier Classic, July 3-6: four invites for players T-12 or better.
-French Open, July 3-6: three invites for players T-10 or better.
-John Deere Classic, July 10-13: one invite for player T-5 or better.
-Scottish Open, July 10-13: three invites for players T-10 or better.
