WVU Football: 2017 Schedule Released

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 11:04 a.m. ET

The WVU Football team knew who would be on their schedule come next fall, but they learned the actual dates on Tuesday with the release of the Big 12 schedule.

All games are currently scheduled for Saturdays, and with the inclusion of a Big 12 Title Game in 2017, the Mountaineers have a possible 13th game on their schedule if things play out the right way. Let’s take a look at the schedule.

Opening the season against a semi-rival Virginia Tech team in familiar territory (Landover, MD – where WVU seems to play at least once every year) will be a great opener. The following two games are against non-conference opponents as well, with East Carolina and Delaware State coming to Morgantown. After returning from Kansas to open Big 12 play, WVU will have a bye before the meat of their schedule hits them. With games at TCU, home against Texas Tech, and then back to Texas to face Baylor, the Moutaineers will cover a lot of ground.

The most exciting part about the release of this schedule is actually seeing a Big 12 Championship Game. Without one, teams in the conference have been snubbed. This is the really incredible part, though; If both West Virginia and Oklahoma are the top two teams in the conference, they’ll play each other in back-to-back weeks. Could you imagine if we go into Norman and beat the Sooners, then have to face them a week later for a title? I know this isn’t college basketball, but it could be madness!
