Wisconsin Football: Two Badgers Named AP All-Americans
Two Badgers Receive College Football’s Highest Honors
Badgers Ryan Ramcyzk and TJ Watt received one of college football’s highest honors on Monday as the Associated Press released their All-American teams for the 2016 season. Ramcyzk was named to AP’s first team while Watt was named to the 2nd team list.
Ramcyzk’s story is an incredible one as he’s grown from a Division III talent to a top NFL prospect in a very short period of time. Ramcyzk played at a local technical college before playing for Division III Stony Brook. Ramcyzk grew up watching the Badgers, and when he impressed highly at the Divsion III level a transfer was eventually lined up for join the left side of Wisconsin’s offense. At standing at 6″6′ Ramcyzk has been called one of the most athletic linemen in recent years, which has the pro scouts drooling about his capabilities.
Ramcyzk had a dominating 2016 season as he lined up on the left side of the line and held opposing defenses down all season. Ryan was not responsible for a sack all season, one of the toughest things to do as a lineman. Ramcyzk sits at 20th on the CBS Big Board for the 2017 NFL Draft, but Badger Fans really should be crossing their fingers that Ryan will return for his senior season.
Watt was named to the AP 2nd team after a dominating season at linebacker for the Badgers. While Ramcyzk came from nowhere, the same can’t be said for Watt as the spotlight has always been on him since his first days at Wisconsin. Watt is a household name in Wisconsin, and its safe to say the quality genes have remained in the family all the way down. Watt had a team high ten sacks, and 59 total tackles this season. He was a freak of a pass rusher all season, and in turn it earned him high honors from the Associated Press. Full list here.
