WATCH: McElwain asks reporter to help out Florida's poor kicking game
Florida's kicking game is struggling immensely...to the point head coach Jim McElwain asked a student reporter whether he was available for this weekend's game against Florida State during Monday's press conference.
When McElwain learned the reporter would be in class, he said, "Dang. I thought maybe you might give us a shot."
With the injury to Jorge Powell earlier in the year, Austin Hardin assumed the role as the lead kicker. On the year, Hardin has gone 5-of-11 on field goal attempts. He's also missed three extra point tries.
Hyperbole aside, it's an issue Florida will have to deal with as its schedule gets considerably more difficult. Hardin missed two field goals last week against FAU, which ultimately led to the close overtime victory for the Gators.
As McElwain succinctly said, "we'll assess [the kicker position]. It is what it is."
.@TheNikkoTan to Mac: Asses the kicker position this week? Mac: What are you doing this week? Nikko: I got class. #Gators
