Not so fast. Shortly after Alabama’s Heisman-winning running back, Derrick Henry, ripped off a 50-yard touchdown run to take a 7-0 lead in the College Football Playoff National Championship game on Monday night, Clemson clawed back with a 31-yard TD pass from Deshaun Watson to Hunter Renfrow.
The Tigers benifited from a good kick return by Artavis Scott, then shortly after Watson, the ACC player of the year, connected with the freshman receiver for the game-tying score with 5:18 remaining in the first quarter. No. 1 Clemson would go on to fall to No. 2 Alabama, 45-40.
