TCU's Boykin doubtful to return against Kansas with injury

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin is doubtful to return to Saturday's game against Kansas after falling awkwardly on his right ankle at the end of a run.

The Heisman Trophy candidate went to the locker room for a few minutes before returning to the sideline in the second quarter, but he did not return to play.

Boykin tried to run off the field with his teammates at halftime, but slowed and walked gingerly behind the pack of players. He joined offensive huddles on the sideline without his helmet, and limped back to the sideline each time backup Bram Kohlhausen took the field.

A TCU spokesman declined to specify the injury.

Television footage showed Boykin limping to the locker room after a sack late in the first quarter. On a play earlier in the quarter, the national leader in total offense turned awkwardly on his right ankle as he slipped while trying to cut and was tackled by Kansas linebacker Joe Dineen Jr.

Boykin was coming off a four-interception game in a loss to Oklahoma State that may have doused his Heisman chances and the national title hopes for the 13th-ranked Horned Frogs. TCU is No. 15 in the playoff rankings.

Kohlhausen is a senior transfer from Houston.

Receiver Josh Doctson, the national leader with 1,315 yards receiving coming in, played early but didn't have a catch at halftime after injuring his wrist against the Cowboys.
