Syracuse Football: The Twelve Days of SU Football Christmas Part 1

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

We continue our lead-up to the holiday season with the twelve days till Syracuse football Christmas. Including: Bowl Eligibility? Healthy of Eric Dungey? #Dungey4Heisman

On the first day of Christmas my true team gave to me bowl eligibility.  Now this doesn’t seem too lofty of a goal which one requires five wins against FBS opponents, until you realize that once again the Orange will have one of the toughest schedules in the nation.

Currently they are slated to play five teams in the top twenty-five next year: Clemson (#2), Florida State (#11), Louisville (#13), LSU (#20) and Pittsburgh (#23).  The remaining games only the non-conference game against Central Connecticut will be against a team that was sub .500: Boston College 6-6, Wake Forest 6-6, NC State 6-6, Middle Tennessee 8-4, Central Michigan 6-6 and University of Miami 8-4.  The combined win-loss record of next year’s opponents is 85-44 or 65.9 percent which stands right now as the toughest in the nation.

With the Orange coming off a 4-8 campaign none of the teams on the schedule are gimmie games. So a trip to a bowl game will be a  steep challenge for Dino Babers “Orange is the New Fast”.  But this is the time for Christmas Miracles and dammit this one is number one on the list so the fat man better come through!

On the second day of Christmas my true team gave to me a healthy Eric Dungey who will play in

all games in the 2017 campaign.  I know I know this list is aiming high.  Eric has been unable to date to remain healthy for a full year.  As I have spoken to in previous articles this is when Dino and his coaching staff need to weigh in both with coaching our young Heisman hopeful and with calling the right plays that don’t put him in harm’s way.  This day feeds into the success of our day one wish without Eric the Orange have no chance to go bowling at the end of the 2017 season.

On the third day of Christmas my true team gave to me support from the Syracuse athletics department to promote Eric Dungey as a true Heisman hopeful.  #Dungey4Hesiman can only come true if the school makes it a priority.  This day feeds into the success of our day two wish, a healthy Eric Dungey for the full season will put him as a legitimate Heisman hopeful.  However without the support of the University in today’s environment Eric will be relegated to watching the presentation at the Downtown Athletic Club on the television vice the front row where he belongs.

    Stay tuned for Part 2
