Syracuse Football: The Proof is in the Pudding for Dino Babers

The Syracuse football team finally got evidence of what Dino Babers promised. Now the Orange and their fans are believers after seeing the process.

The Syracuse football team got a rock star hire on many levels when they were able to lure Dino Babers to Central New York. Babers came into the initial press conference and told everyone in the room to close their eyes and imagine.

Babers provided the narration as he described how this Orange offense was going to look at full capacity. While this team isn’t anywhere near perfect, that is what makes this so special.

The Orange came into this game as 20+ point underdogs depending on the entertainment purposes only site you peruse. Yet they beat that same team by double digit points in the Carrier Dome.

Babers talked after the game about how his “non-scholarship guys” were able to win consistently against their “scholarship guys”. Just imagine when he gets his guys on this team.

Last week after an embarrassing loss to Wake Forest all seemed lost for the Orange. Fans started calling for Babers head and the bowl talk all but subsided. Now fast forward a week and this team is back to the top of the mountain.

It’s comical how quickly the narrative can change from week-to-week in college football. But lets go back a couple weeks to that cake reference during one of Babers’ pressers.

“I think when it’s all said and done, you guys will like the cake that we’re baking,” Babers said. “Right now is not the time to eat the batter. Wait for us to bake the cake.”

Babers came in saying he wanted fans to believe in the process without the evidence. This cake was supposed to take a year and a half to bake. But finally now, Babers has the evidence to motivate not only the team, but the fan base that the future is bright.

After the game Babers had a lot of things to say and they’re worth mentioning here.

“I’m really happy for all the guys in the locker room, and all of you, to get a taste of what this is going to be like.”

“There are always nay-Sayers until you get that one win that brings everyone together. Now we’re a family.”

“That excitement (when you rush the field) is so pure, so honest. It will stay with you for a long time.”

This win arguably has made this season a success no matter what happens the rest of the way. There were reports surfacing from Syracuse.com, that even some players were skeptical about their chances in this game coming in.

So for the Orange to get this one, not only does it bring the fan-base together. But this win will bring this team together and again show a glimpse of what’s to come. I can’t remember the last time the Orange faithful stormed the field, but this is one Orange Nation will remember forever.
